On October 3, HP held their Securities Analyst Meeting, which I attended in person at the Concourse Exhibition Center in San Francisco. This is a day, like all major public companies have, where senior management discusses their plans for the future with the major institutional investors.
While today’s businesses are challenged to meet and exceed the expectations of shareholders, Board of Directors, executive leaders and stakeholders (public and private); so are IT leaders. We hear, see and read many so called experts telling anyone that will listen, that IT leadership must assimilate in the business plan or die.
Many CEOs and CIOs would agree that one major stumbling block in communicating the value of IT is the language gap. The key to demonstrating the contribution of IT investments to shareholder value is to link IT business case benefits to the drivers of shareholder value.
