Welcome to the new STA! We are excited to share our insights and help our clients meet their IT challenges in 2010 and beyond. Part of the new STA is our emphasis on working with clients to understand the financial and business impacts of their IT infrastructure investments.
Most investments in IT infrastructure can be evaluated by comparing the costs and benefits of maintaining the status quo with the costs and benefits of new alternatives. In order to understand, quantify and evaluate this comparison, the following steps need to be taken:

Discover and compile information on the current state of an enterprise’s entire IT infrastructure or a relevant subset of the infrastructure. |

Analyze the information collected to determine the best alternatives based on a combination of business and IT requirements, including budget limitations. |

Quantify and compare the financial and non-financial impacts of the options over a period of years. (This includes all significant current and future costs, not just capital acquisition costs.) |

Prepare and present detailed results to IT and business stakeholders. |

This financial modeling approach is an integrated part of STA’s pre-sales and post-sales activities.
Over the next year we will be launching a number of on-line tools to assist our current and prospective clients understand the potential costs and benefits of IT infrastructure investments and strategies. These analysis tools will address high interest topics such as virtualization, cloud services, and data protection. We will also be soliciting input from our clients on how we can improve our tools and process to provide more value.
